After we leave

Once your frame has been erected its appearance usually benefits from cleaning, therefore sandblasting the oak after the roof covering has been applied is advised. This simply removes any marks the oak has picked up during construction and also raises the grain slightly giving it a more textured feel. Sandblasting is not included in Westwind Oak's price as it usually takes place after they have left the site, but reliable sandblasters can be recommended at the appropriate time.

As the oak dries it will turn to a honey gold colour and there is no need to apply any further finishes or preservatives to it. It is a natural material and as it ages shakes (splits along the timber) may appear. This is caused by the outside of the timber drying and therefore shrinking faster than the inside. In time they may well decrease as the inside dries but it will not affect the structural strength of your building.
